TDA CE Tracking Program Update: What You Need to Know
TDA will transition away from its Continuing Education (CE) tracking program on December 31, 2026, at the close of the current CE biennium to align with the Tennessee Board of Dentistry's new compliance process.
For decades, this voluntary program provided members with a way to track their continuing education compliance. As technology and state compliance processes have evolved, however, maintaining a separate TDA CE tracking program no longer best serves members' compliance needs.
Technology & Changing State Compliance Methods
TDA has continually adapted its CE tracking program as technology has evolved. In 2015, TDA integrated CE tracking into the ADA's association management system, creating a single member portal for membership and continuing education activities.
When the ADA and state dental associations transitioned to a new association management system in 2025, the new platform did not provide the same CE tracking experience. With this understanding, TDA looked at multiple available options to support CE tracking for members.
Recently, the Tennessee Board of Dentistry made the decision to phase out audit submissions via email, fax, or mail. This includes submission of a TDA transcript, which served as proof of continuing education in the past.
Board of Dentistry Audit Requirements
While the Board does not currently mandate day-to-day use of CE Broker for standard license renewals, it has integrated the platform into its official audit process. If you are selected for a CE audit, the Board now requires you to submit your CE certificates directly through CE Broker; a TDA CE transcript is no longer accepted as sufficient documentation. Because submitting records to both the TDA and the state would create a redundant process, the TDA is aligning its resources with the Board's official framework.
Managing Your CE Tracking Transition
- Through December 31, 2026: The TDA will continue to accept and record your CE submissions for the current biennium if you choose to submit them into the ADA portal. You should continue to keep your original certificates.
- Beginning January 1, 2027: TDA-sponsored CE tracking will officially conclude. The functionality to upload your CE into the ADA member portal will continue to be available, but it will remain as "pending."
- Going Forward: Members should maintain their own CE certificates and follow the Tennessee Board of Dentistry’s requirements for a CE Broker account if audited. You may utilize a free or upgraded CE Broker account to assist in tracking the required continuing education, so your CE hours are in the system prior to an audit.
Continuing Education Opportunities
While TDA's tracking service is ending, TDA Approved Continuing Education (ACE) remains a core member benefit. The TDA will continue to provide high-quality CE programming both live and on-demand. TDA Study Clubs will continue to submit attendance directly to the TDA.
