TDA Governance

Overview

The TDA is a state constituent society of the American Dental Association. Tennessee is in the Sixth District of the ADA, along with Kentucky, Missouri and West Virginia. The TDA is governed by the House of Delegates and the Board of Trustees.

House of Delegates

The House of Delegates is the legislative and governing body of the Tennessee Dental Association. There are 68 members of the House of Delegates designated annually by the nine component societies constituting the Association, plus two dental students - one from each Tennessee dental school. The allocation of delegates to the component societies is made proportionately based on membership. The House meets once per year during Annual Session.

Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees is the administrative body of the Tennessee Dental Association and has fiduciary responsibility for the governance and strategic direction of the TDA. The Board is composed of one trustee from each of the TDA’s nine component societies, a new dentist representative, and eight officers elected by the House of Delegates.

Councils & Committees

Councils and Committees of the TDA explore matters more in depth than is possible for the Board of Trustees. Councils and committees draw members together from different parts of the state with relevant expertise to research issues and make recommendations to the Board of Trustees.
